HASSRA Leeds – Quarry House Angling Club

New members of all skill levels welcome – just get in touch.

The Coarse Angling Club is a small friendly club with about 12 or so regular anglers who participate in club matches. We hold 5 or 6 matches during the year at different venues throughout Yorkshire.

Beginners please don’t be put off as everyone is willing to offer advice and we hold an annual “have a go day” for youngsters, returning anglers and those who just want to “have a go”.  Here tackle can be provided and you can receive coaching from members of the club which last year was so good that some of the newbies caught bigger and better than club members. This year it will be held the 18th of July 2009.

There’s also a handicap match where those who haven’t done so well in the earlier matches have a great chance of winning a trophy. In fact the worse you do in the early matches the better your chance of winning (as long as you catch something). The venues are also pretty safe, usually on commercial lakes with platforms to fish from and on site loos (no not actually on the platforms). Some also boast on site cafes and tackle shops. All are full of fish you just need to be crafty enough to catch them.

This year we plan to start in May and include venues such as  Sunrise Lakes, Spofforth, near Wetherby - where last time we were treated to the sight of spectacular Red Kites circling above us as we fished - The Willows” near York, “The Oaks” at Sessay and Woodlands near Thirsk.

For those more adventurous we have a club trip planned for 25th & 26th of June down Stourport way with accommodation and top fishing venues on the itinerary.

Each year we also hold a presentation of prizes at a hostelry close to the last venue where we enjoy a meal and a modest libation.

All very good natured competition and plenty of humour so if you’re a novice, someone coming back to fishing or just want to come along for the craic go on get in touch.

New members are always welcome – please contact Tony Hotchkin (24111) or John Douglas (27547) in Quarry House for further details.
